Dokimion

Dokimion is a tool I built so that before the first sample you know whether a part can be printed, with which technology and what needs to change on it. It runs on its own site, dokimion.app.

Why I built it

In consulting the same question keeps coming back: can this part be printed, and is it worth it. Each time the answer needs the same geometry checks. Dokimion runs them on its own, with thresholds that have a source, so I spend my time on the decisions a tool cannot make.

How it fits with consulting

Dokimion answers a question about one part. Consulting answers a question about the company: which technology to adopt, whether it pays off and how to qualify the process. If an answer for one part is enough, Dokimion is the faster route. If not, start with a production analysis.

What comes next

The next step is shape optimization: the tool deriving a new shape of the part from its operating conditions, not just checking the existing one. I described what that looks like on five industrial parts in Shape optimization for 3D printing.
